Abstract

The existence of intersections with close distances and in the form of a grid pattern in the city of Blitar poses its own problems, especially the short distances between intersections such as the Veterans road in Blitar City. There are two intersections 480 meters apart on the Veteran road. So to overcome this, it is necessary to analyze the optimization of cycle time and signal coordination between the Plosokerep and Veteran intersections. This study aims to identify, evaluate, and provide recommendations for handling with solutions that can be done by optimizing cycle times and coordinating traffic light signals at the two intersections. Data collection methods in the study area are in the form of intersection geometric data, traffic volume data, and cycle times at both intersections. The data obtained is used to obtain the existing conditions which will be a reference in planning a new cycle time by taking into account the theory of coordination. Meanwhile, in performing calculations to get the best performance at each intersection, the MKJI approach is carried out. The best performance at each intersection is then coordinated using the green time between intersections. the limitation on coordination using trial error according to MKJI with the highest and lowest limits then the best cycle time is chosen from trial error with indicators of the degree of saturation, queues, and delays decreasing. The results of the analysis show that the two intersections have not been coordinated and the need for optimization and coordination according to the current condition of the traffic flow, the analysis has decreased the queue length and delay from the previous high condition. This study resulted in a suggestion, namely in the implementation of coordination at these two intersections the need for support from all related parties to conduct research on intersections in the form of a grid pattern with close distances on roads in Blitar City.
