Abstract

Transportation is an essential need for people in their daily activities, especially in urban areas like Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara. As the provincial capital, Mataram City plays a strategic role in supporting various activities. However, high mobility often leads to traffic problems, particularly at road intersections. This issue is evident on Bung Karno Street at four intersections: Karangsari, near Upnormal Coffee, DPD Golkar, and Gebang. The close proximity of the intersections (less than 800 meters apart) and poor intersection performance cause congestion and potential accidents. This study aims to analyze and optimize the performance of these four intersections through existing condition analysis and optimization methods. Existing conditions show that all intersections are at Level of Service (LOS) F with high degrees of saturation and delays. Through optimization using the Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual (PKJI) and Transyt software, this study seeks to improve intersection performance. The analysis results indicate significant improvements after optimization, with reductions in degrees of saturation, queue lengths, and delays at the four intersections. The implementation of signal coordination also proved effective, increasing average network speed, reducing travel time, and lowering delay time. The study recommends further research involving geometric changes at the intersections and the maintenance of road facilities by the Mataram City Transportation Department to enhance the comfort and safety of road users.
