Abstract
A turnout is an important device on railway lines that enable the movement of trains from one track to another. The turnout consists of several components, including the turnout’s tongue which functions to direct the movement of the train. One of the turnout owned South Sumatera LRT line is the double crossover type. A double crossover turnout is a turnout that is equipped with tongue movements and curved lines. This turnout allows trains to change tracks from line one to line two or vice versa at the same point. On the route from Bandara station to Asrama Haji station, the turnout used is a turnout that will definitely be passed by South Sumatera LRT. The density of activity at the Bandara Station turnout can affect the condition of the turnout and make it susceptible to component damage. Damage to these components could have fatal consequences for the safety of LRT South Sumatera operations. This problem must be overcome by identifying damage and its impact on LRT train operations. The aim of this research is to maintain the security and safety of South Sumatera LRT train operations. The method used in this research is field observation by examining airport turnout to identify the type of damage and its impact. The types of damage found were wear on the turnout tongue, puddles on the slab deck, gaps between the tongue and the ram rail which were more than the provisions, and the width of the groove on the needle and the force rail which did not comply with the provisions. The damage that occurs can cause a derailment in the operation of the LRT train, therefore it is necessary to handle it by replacing the broken rails and new turnout tongues so that it can maintain the safe operation of the South Sumatra LRT train.
