Abstract
The high number of accidents is a big problem for the transportation sector, such as the frequent occurrence of accidents at level crossings. The level crossing is one of the accident prone points because it is the point of intersection of the plotbetween the railway line and the highway, for example the JPL 165 crossing on the road plot between Garum Station-Talun Station, Blitar Regency. The JPL 165 crossing is an unattended crossing where accidents often occur, it is recorded that in the last five months there have been four accidents. Therefore, there is a need fora study related to how efforts can be made to improve safety at JPL 165 crossings. This study uses some primary data and secondary data for further analysis. Primary data was obtained through observations related to road geometry conditions at crossings, existing crossing safety facilities, and traffic characteristics from traffic counting surveys. While the supporting data used are the number of local crossings, the number of accident cases that have occurred, and the number of train frequencies. Furthermore, the data was processed using a qualitative descriptive method and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model consisting of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Each of the research steps above, of course, uses a basis in the form of a theoretical basis which includes PM 94 of 2018, PM 36 of 2011, Perdirjen Land Transportation Number SK.407/AJ.401/DRJD/2018 and Number SK.770/KA.401/ DRJD/2005, and the 1997 Indonesian Road Capacity Manual to analyze traffic characteristics at the JPL 165 crossing.
