Abstract

Level crossings often cause problems, namely accidents and congestion. Several factors cause accidents, namely road damage at crossings, incomplete signs, railroad geometry, inappropriate roads and human errors. At JPL No. 13A Level crossing safety facilities such as doors and signs are still incomplete and there are some signs that are damaged, so that it has an impact on traffic safety. The research method used is a survey of marking and sign facilities at level crossings and Traffic Counting (TC), Traffic Volume Calculation Daily traffic (LHR) and Road Capacity at level crossings, as well as risk analysis using the Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) method. The existing condition of JPL No. 13A is only one crossing gate and signs that are incomplete and damaged, and road users are found to be on the opposite direction and too close to the rail when the train passes. From the risk analysis in JPL No. 13A, the risk that often occurs is collisions and accidents have a high level of severity. Mitigation must be done to reduce the severity of the accident. Alternative risk control to reduce the frequency of occurrence/impact of accidents and collisions is by repairing and increasing level crossing safety facilities such as procurement of crossing gates, adding train detection signals and repairing incomplete and inappropriate signs in JPL No. 13A, as well as socialization to the public and road users about the dangers of breaking through and ignoring signs.
